RESCHOOL

A European collaboration project for the development of energy communities.

Reschool

RESCHOOL is an EU-funded innovation project involving 16 partners from 7 different countries, aimed at promoting the creation of local energy communities across the European market and empowering citizens to engage through improved technology and climate-smart services.

Energy production and consumption account for over 75 percent of the EU’s greenhouse gas emissions. To achieve the sustainability targets outlined in the EU Green Deal, a transition to clean energy is essential — this requires increasing the use of renewable sources and improving energy efficiency.

The EU views energy communities as a vital component of the energy transition, as they foster citizen engagement in energy issues while generating environmental, economic, and social benefits for communities. RESCHOOL includes four pilot projects across four countries, exploring how energy communities can operate under various conditions. One of the pilots is led by ElectriCITY Innovation in Hammarby Sjöstad, Stockholm, with the remaining pilots located in Girona, Amsterdam, and Athens/Rafina.

The 3.5-year project focuses on both the technical and behavioral aspects of energy communities. The ambition is to engage citizens in energy issues by working together to create environmental, economic, and social benefits.

Pilot project in
Hammarby Sjöstad

The Swedish pilot, known as the Hammarby Sjöstad Energy Community, is led by ElectriCITY Innovation. This energy community aims to engage citizens in the energy transition by increasing renewable energy production, sharing and storing energy, further improving energy efficiency, reducing overall energy consumption, lowering peak power demand, and reducing energy costs. The goal is to create a replicable model for energy communities that can be implemented in other areas across Sweden and internationally.

Energy Community in Numbers:

  • 10 housing associations
  • Approx. 1,000 apartments
  • 427 charging points for electric vehicles
  • 280 kWp (kilowatt peak, the maximum output of a solar panel or solar installation)

App Makes It Easy

In the Hammarby Sjöstad pilot project, a platform and app are being developed by LocalLife specifically for the energy community. The app is designed to present energy data in a clear and accessible way, enabling community members to monitor and compare energy usage across various properties.

One feature allows each member to view their own energy consumption over time and compare it. Users can also explore the consumption data of other community members to see how it differs from their own. This comparison feature makes it easier to ask for advice and tips on optimizing energy use and reducing shared peak power demand.

A key objective is for the app to help community members advance together in their “energy class journey”, aiming to achieve a higher classification in the building’s energy performance certification.
