How Do We Ensure Enough Power for Electric Vehicle Charging in Multi-Family Homes?

2022.03.08

The transition to electrified vehicles is happening rapidly, and the automotive industry has made its system choice. Refueling a fossil-fuel car at a gas station is something most of us take for granted, but electric cars can take several hours to charge, and the “fuel” is already available where we live. Therefore, it’s easier and cheaper to charge at home when cars are parked overnight.

The technology that has been installed in our housing associations so far is actually better suited for homeowners. The lifespan of these EV chargers is about 5–10 years, and they are not comparable to the types of electrical installations we are used to in our buildings. Additionally, our electrical grid cannot support an unlimited number of these chargers.

We are therefore in urgent need of solutions for scalable and sustainable electric vehicle charging.

District Heating or Geothermal Heat, Which is Best?

2022.02.16

We will learn more about how district heating and heat pumps work, as well as visions for the future. The discussion will cover how these systems function in terms of societal and climate benefits, what is most cost-effective, and how this winter’s high electricity prices are impacting district heating and geothermal heating.

The purpose of the meeting is to gain a better understanding of district heating/geothermal heating and, based on this knowledge, make more informed decisions when choosing technology.

How can we leverage these technological choices to jointly address future challenges, such as power shortages? Can these technologies collaborate through centralized control of our systems?

How Do We Make Cities Climate-Neutral, and What Can Your Company Contribute?

EC Day 2021.11.17

We are first inspired by Samsø Energy Academy in Denmark, which succeeded in engaging its residents in energy investments, making their island climate-neutral in 10 years. Now, the goal is to become a fossil-free island by 2030. This requires a focus on both best practices and next practices.

We then welcome representatives from the municipality, businesses, and citizen organizations in Enköping, who share their challenges related to energy. Jonas Söderberg from RISE, with extensive experience working with municipalities, discusses the problems and opportunities.

Finally, several companies present innovations that can deliver climate-smart solutions for cities aiming to become climate-neutral.

We aim to clear up any confusion about microgrids in this meeting.

Microgrid in Hammarby Sjöstad

2021.10.14 Initial Information Meeting with the Members of Sjöstadsföreningen

ElectriCITY, together with several partners, including the Royal Institute of Technology (KTH) and the state research institute RISE, has received funding from the Swedish Energy Agency to carry out a unique project focused on flexible energy in the Microgrid Project in Hammarby Sjöstad.

Power Shortages with Home Charging?

2021.05.06 Information Meeting with the Members of Sjöstadsföreningen

Nine out of ten condominium associations in Hammarby Sjöstad have parking spaces equipped with chargers for electric and hybrid vehicles, according to a survey conducted by ElectriCITY Innovation in collaboration with the Sjöstadsföreningen. In this meeting, we present the results from the survey.

In the case of power shortages during electric vehicle charging in our residential associations, there are now smart control systems that can manage charging at different times and match the needs of electric car owners. Our expert, Sten Bergman, will provide an overview.

The Village, one of Hammarby Sjöstad’s new condominium associations, has made specific requirements for an upcoming expansion of charging stations, which Martin will share.

Four companies will present charging solutions, both for associations that need an expansion with more chargers and for those that currently do not have any chargers.
