Digital tools that help tackle climate change – and support smarter, more sustainable cities. In Hammarby Sjöstad, the DigiCityClimate project is turning research into real-world solutions, with residents, researchers and the city working side by side.
How can we create digital solutions that make a real difference – for the climate and for people? That’s the key question behind DigiCityClimate. For ElectriCITY, which has been involved since the start, it’s a clear example of how local collaboration and innovation can go hand in hand.
“DigiCityClimate proves that we get the best results when researchers, residents, and city officials work together. This is exactly the kind of approach we’ve been developing and refining at ElectriCITY for over ten years – and we know it works,” says Jörgen Lööf, CEO of ElectriCITY.
From chatbot to control room
The project has resulted in several tech solutions now being tested in Hammarby Sjöstad: an AI-powered chatbot offering energy-saving tips, a digital control room for monitoring buildings’ energy use, and a model that shows how greenery impacts the urban microclimate.A testbed built on co-creation
ElectriCITY’s role has been to enable co-creation between researchers, residents, and housing associations in Hammarby Sjöstad – a testbed where new ideas can be explored in real life and developed together with the people they affect.
“Involving residents isn’t just about collecting better data – it also builds engagement and leads to solutions that actually get used. We’ve had a very active testbed here, with lots of housing associations curious and willing to take part,” says Lööf.
Scaling what works
DigiCityClimate highlights what much of ElectriCITY’s work is all about – the power of combining technology, data, and local engagement – and the need to scale up what works.
“We’re excited to take the next step, together with KTH and other partners. ElectriCITY is always open to new collaborations in our key focus areas: energy, mobility, digitalisation, and the circular economy. That’s where we know we can make the biggest difference,” says Jörgen Lööf.
