ElectriCITY Innovation works together with our members and partners for a more sustainable world. We conduct a number of test beds in energy, transport, circular economy and digital urban development. The goal is to become a climate-neutral district by 2030.

We have our headquarters in Hammarby Sjöstad in Stockholm and we call our project Hammarby Sjöstad 2.0. We act locally, but think globally. Our goal is to spread the results from our test beds and sustainability solutions to other districts and cities in Sweden and other countries.

ElectriCITY Innovation is a Swedish credit union. We actively monitor all announcements in environmental and sustainability and participate in collaborative projects with other stakeholders. Our strength is that we have leading companies, research institutes and universities as members and partners and that we work closely with the Sjöstadsföreningen’s housing associations and residents in Hammarby Sjöstad.

We have developed a model for engaging residents in Sjöstan – a bottom-up perspective and a holistic view of climate issues that integrates housing with e-mobility, circular economy and urban farming. How these activities can benefit from each other when it comes to saving energy, developing more sustainable transport and making people more aware and active in environmental work.

It is also an example of how citizens and companies together can participate in climate change and make this change financially profitable for all parties.

Our way of working is a viable initiative that takes place in constant dialogue with the residents, both in our own district and in other municipalities and districts. With more participants we are able to broaden the possibilities of development and improvement by adding new ideas and innovations to the model. We see it as a tree with a branch full of shoots that give new branches, that is, new initiatives that turn into new projects.

ElectriCITY in large project for new energy solutions

ElectriCITY Innovation, together with a number of partners, has received a grant from the Swedish Energy Agency to implement a comprehensive project with flexible energy. The project will develop efficient solutions for measuring, storing and sharing local energy in so-called energy communities and in a flexibility market. This also includes developing business and legal models that can make the systems profitable.

90% of Sjöstan’s housing associations can charge EVs

– These are positive figures that show that Sjöstaden is a very charge-dense district. Good for the environment and – in the long run –  economically sound because it is usually cheaper to own and drive an electric car compared to petrol and diesel cars, says Sten Bergman at ElectriCITY Innovation.
The questionnaire, which was sent out via the Sjöstadsföreningen’s address register, was answered by 32 housing associations. Two of the associations have no parking spaces at all, three have not installed any charging equipment, while as many as 27 associations have charging stations for electric and hybrid cars.

ElectriCITY and Agenda 2030

In September 2015, UN member states adopted Agenda 2030 – the most ambitious program for sustainable development that the countries of the world have ever adopted. The agenda is an action plan for how all countries in the world should work to create a peaceful, just and equal world by 2030. The whole society must be involved in this work, state, municipalities, business, investors, research community and civil society.

ElectriCITY / Hammarby Sjöstad 2.0 has decided to follow the 2030 Committee’s call to civil society and business to contribute in this work. In its operations, ElectriCITY will highlight Agenda 2030 and report on the progress made within the selected goals.
